A Lake Built by Hand, a Town Built by Rail
Glen Ellyn's Main Street core took shape after the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad arrived in 1849, and in 1889 residents Thomas E. Hill and Philo Stacy had a dam built to create Lake Ellyn, an artificial lake that still sits near the town's historic center today. The village incorporated in 1892.
